A Mother waiting at a clinicFor the past 3 years we have been piloting and pioneering outreach to extremely poor village communities. We would assess the needs of the community and try to implement sustainable solutions in partnership with the village. During this time we piloted a remote village primary school for over 65 children, established a village church, put in a bore-hole well and established a low cost monitoring clinic for the pregnant and lactating mothers and the under 5’s. This clinic identified women at risk of complications in pregnancy and assisted them towards a safer more survivable birth for mother and baby. The under 5’s were given de-worming treatment which otherwise would have been a contributory cause of their under-development and ultimate survivability. 1 in 5 children in Sierra Leone don’t get past the age of 5.
We have now concluded our pilot program and are currently looking for other villages we can assist. Our pilot projects have now been taken over by Zion Ministries - an organisation we are connected with - where they have built a clinic and a School to replace our pilot structures.
