The next team going out to Sierra Leone arrives on 21st April 08. This time we (Barbara and I) have from Northern Ireland, Carolyn Steed from Green Pastures Church in Ballymena and Simon Rowland from Bangor Elim Church. We also have Sue Depledge from New Life Church in Lincolnshire, England which is part of the Ground Level Network of churches.

Pressing Needs by far...
johanis.jpgWe have several pressing needs that we would like to share with you which we would appreciate urgent prayer for. All of these topics, if addressed, will make a direct impact on real life amongst the poorest people in the world who we have been called to serve and usher in the Kingdom of God.

A New Orphanage Home
In the grounds of  our Heavens Garden Baby Rescue Centre we have an unused 4 bedroom house which we could fit out as a second orphanage home. Currently the only thing stopping us taking in 15 or more new abandoned and street kids is we do not have the funds to run this 2nd home.

new_orphanage.jpg In order for us to get this off the ground we need 2 types of support, here we will just give the totals required.
  • Capital for beds, bedding, cupboards, desks, tables, cooking utensils etc - £800 initial kit out ($1600 USD)
  • Monthly support for running costs for 15 kids e.g food, electric, health-care, aunties etc - £500 per month ($1000 USD)
The monthly figure can be made up of several donators each contributing a part. It could be individuals and/or groups. The important thing for us is that it be sustainable  monthly so these kids can rest assured of their future and stability.

Please help us to rescue at least 15 more orphans and abandoned kids from a life of extreme poverty and violence, many are scraping food from around the market stalls after they have shut for the day in our town of Bo.

Heaven's Garden Baby Rescue Centre - Baby Milk - Urgent Need
We have seen  massive inflation rate  here in Sierra Leone, especially on imported goods. One of our most expensive items for the Rescue Centre is imported Formula Baby Milk. We could take-in and rescue dozens more babies if we had regular donators contributing to this fantastically rewarding project. Again the whole key to sustainability is regular monthly support.

babs_n_baby.jpgdavid_n_baby.jpgMany babies die when a mother is unable to breast feed, because they cannot afford formula milk.

We will be visiting 2 hospitals and maternity units where they have no place to send the babies of deceased mothers

We will also be visiting far out villages on foot where 1 in 4 mothers die giving birth.

Please help us to help these babies.

Vulnerable Women start-up Kits
We have been training for the past year a large class of vulnerable women in a multi-skills training course. The purpose is to give them one skill that they excel at that will enable them to earn a righteous living rather than where their previous lifestyle was leading them.

13 of these ladies are now ready to graduate in their specialist skill. As part of that we would like to give them a start-up kit on a micro-loan that will enable them for the first time to start to make a living for themselves. These kits are not expensive and will give a firm foundation paltform for them to regain their dignity and to walk in righteousness.

You can download a leaflet (in PDF format) on each of these kits by clicking on the kits above (while being online if you are reading this from a Newsletter).

We ask you to please prayerfully consider sponsoring one or more of these kits. We will be able to send you the photographs of the actual presentation to these girls.

Portable Generator
Part of our on going evangelistic programme involves showing the Jesus Film. We now have copies of both the Jesus Film and the Story of Jesus for Children in both the Krio language and the local tribal language of Mende. Our strategy is to bring the Good News of the Gospel of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ to the far our villages. These are places where no 4x4 vehicle can go, where hours of walking is the only means of access. Currently we can only do this where there is electric available. The generator would also be used at the visitor accommodation.
